Compare & Contrast

I have decided to compare and contrast two songs, John Lennon's "Imagine" and Rainbow's "Freedom's Destination". The first that I've noticed is the structure are both different. "Imagine" rhyme scheme are acbc as for "Freedom's Destination" rhyme scheme are abcd.

Another way these songs differ is Rainbow's song has more connotation's within the lyrics. Here is an example, "Chained in mediocrity so I can be like you." The words used in Lennon's songs aren't as powerful, though the song holds a meaning just as stong.

A way that they compare is they both use effective imagery that gives you a visual of what they're trying to portray. These are both excellent songs, "Freedom's Destination" is more raw and displays stronger emotions; mainly hate and anger. As for "Imagine", it's more of a peaceful lyrical poem.

"Freedom Fighter" by Rainbow

You can’t control me tell me what to do
Chained in mediocrity so I can be like you
I am not a statue not part of a machine
I’m sick and tired of the whole routine
Calculate your future, computerise your past
Instant replay if it’s gone too fast
Take away my freedom, take away my home
I’m only human but it might now show
I’m not made of stone

I’m a freedom fighter I got something to say
I’m a freedom fighter get out of my way

Hide behind your politics, hide behind your rules
Tell me I’m a man but you treat me like a fool
It’s the same old story with a different name
You give us all a number and nothing changes
Out in the winter of a world upon it’s knees
Everyone is watching but no one sees
You can’t take my freedom you know it is my right
If you try and stop me I’m gonna fight
With all of my might

I’m a freedom fighter and I’m taking command
I’m a freedom fighter and I’m making a stand

Fighting for breath as the world gathers speed
Time’s running out for the things that I need

I’m a freedom fighter I gotta take a stand
I’m a freedom fighter, yeah that’s what I am
I’m a freedom fighter I can’t take it no more
I’m a freedom fighter no no more
I’m a freedom fighter but I’m not afraid
I’m a freedom fighter get out of my way.

"Freedom's Destination"-unknown

Some foreign country,
Some funny name.
After awhile,
They all look the same.

Grandpa went first,
Back then World War I.
And didn't come home,
'Til the job was all done.

My Dad was then ripe,
When it came time for II.
Returning as hero's,
Only missing quite a few.

A Brother was the next in line,
To risk his life and limbs,
But, Korea kind of fizzled out,
Especially for him.

Then came strife in Vietnam,
And I was 18 'when' . . .
They poked 'n had me turn 'n cough,
Then sent me off to win.

I thought when in the combat zones,
If 'ever' I go down . . .
My folks will know that I was here,
Not hiding out of town.

We all fought for freedom,
Representing our hometowns.
To be damn sure our kids had homes,
Still setting on free grounds.

The countless before,
And many since.
Whose young life's were cut short,
I am 'sure' would say this . . .

'This was my last,
I've given my all.
But if you don't mind,
Let me make 'one' last call?

When you get 'round to my marker,
And you're wondering that day.
What words to scribe upon it,
Just 'What' is left to say?

Please keep it nice 'n simple,
And I be 'forever proud' . . . .'

PLEASE LORD
PLEASE HEAR ME
NO MORE WARS
ALLOWED

My rights, yours rights, our rights
Human Rights
From a mechanic shop came a cry of a boy
What are my rights? Education or being a mechanic

My rights, your rights, our rights
Human Rights
From a house came a cry of a girl
What are my rights? Doing the household work like a slave or education

My rights, your rights, our rights
Human Rights
From a house came a cry of a women
What are my rights? Being made a slave or a free citizen

My rights, your rights. our rights
Human Rights

"Impromptu" by Lord Byron

When a man hath no freedom to fight for at home,
Let him combat for that of his neighbours;
Let him think of the glories of Greece and of Rome,
And get knocked on his head for his labours.

To do good to mankind is the chivalrous plan,
And is always as nobly requited;
Then battle for freedom wherever you can,
And, if not shot or hanged, you'll get knighted.

"Imagine" by John Lennon

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

"Freedom For Equality" by Amanda Brown

We are told its not right
That its our decision the way we live our life
But now its time to stand up and fight
To let everyone know
That being gay is alright
Cuz we can't help who we love
Or help the feelings that came from above
So theres no more crying
No more hiding
Its time to rise above
And show the whole world we're not giving up
We'll fight till the end
Tell we have the same freedom as our fellow man
Cuz the more you hold us back
The harder we fight back
No more 'don't ask, don't tell'
Its time to take that law
And sent it strait to hell
Cuz this is our time
To stand up for everyone
Who has ever had doubt
And show them its ok to come out
And if people try to silence you
Its fuel to the fire for you
Cuz we're an army of one
brought together by the same bond
Fighting for the freedom of Equality
And we won't stop till the world sees
That we are ment to be
So you can love us
Or you can hate us
But when its all said and done
Gay is in us
And no one can take that away from us
So you can ban us
And you can curse us
You can write your signs
And you can speak your minds
But we won't stand down
Tell our voices are found
And the laws are changed
for us all to live the same way
Cuz we all bleed the same
And we all hurt the same
We all take a stand for what we believe in
And this is my stand
For gay rights Freedom
So now its time for us all to stand together and Fight
So no more innocent souls are taken by fright.

"Universal Freedom Is.." by George Krokos

Freedom from hunger and freedom from pain
freedom from loss and so freedom from gain.
Freedom to give and freedom to share
freedom from want and that of despair.

Freedom to think and freedom to know
freedom to achieve and freedom to grow.
Freedom from bondage and freedom of liberation
freedom from ignorance and any unknown situation.

Freedom to come and freedom to leave
freedom to stay and freedom to conceive.
Freedom from struggle and freedom of ease
freedom to enjoy and the capacity to please.

Freedom from failure and freedom of success
freedom from denial and freedom of access.
Freedom from illusion and freedom of reality
freedom to become what we are in actuality.

Freedom to live and freedom to die
freedom to laugh and freedom to cry.
Freedom to speak and freedom to listen
freedom to act based on a wise decision.

Freedom from hate and freedom of love
freedom of below and freedom of above.
Freedom of the past and freedom of the present
freedom of the future and what it can represent.

Freedom from war and freedom of peace
freedom to begin and freedom to cease.
Freedom from sickness and freedom of health
freedom from poverty and mishandled wealth.

Freedom from wrong and freedom being right
freedom of the day and freedom of the night.
Freedom to choose and freedom to reject
freedom to imagine what there is to expect.

Freedom from lust and freedom from greed
freedom from anger and freedom from breed.
Freedom from jealousy and freedom from pride
freedom from within and freedom from outside.
Freedom of always not having anything to hide.

Freedom from space and also freedom from time
freedom from attachment and freedom from crime
Freedom to work and freedom to play
freedom to believe and freedom to pray.
Freedom to experience a rebirth someday.

Freedom from the body and freedom from the mind
freedom from the ego and freedom from being blind.
Freedom of transcendance being of the spiritual kind.

Universal freedom is eternal and infinite bliss
we should all therefore be able to realise this.
